House fire in Baguio City destroys P1.2M property; Faulty electrical wiring seen as cause

Baguio City, Philippines – Faulty electrical wiring sparked fire in a three-storey house in Baguio City on the morning of Thursday, September 19.

Upon notification, BFP Baguio City proceeded to the area and extinguished the fire. Fireout was declared around 8 a.m. of said day.

The house is owned by a certain Eleonor Bayongasan Kibiten, a resident of Bauko Mt. Province.

In their investigation, the firefighters found that the fire was caused by faulty wiring. The fire grew as it razed some valuable things, particularly at the third floor of the house.

The estimated damage is valued at P1.2 million. No one was hurt in the incident.

BFP Baguio said this is now the 78th fire incident in the city and the 41st incident recorded under structural fire. For the month of September, this is the third occurrence of such incident in the city.

Three deaths relative to such incidents have been noted this year.

With said number of fire incidents in the summer capital, Mayor Benjamin Magalong made a directive to concerned offices to intensify information dissemination, particularly on fire-prevention measures.

“We have to ramp up our information-education-communication (IEC) campaign to prevent further incidents,” the mayor stated.

Magalong likewise reminded the public to be more vigilant about the dangers of destructive fires.
