To date, there are now 12 students engaged in said egg production enterprise in the region. Each recipient as capital received 100 heads of layer chicken, 12.5 bags of layer feeds, a drum, and a set of modular layer cages which adds up to P94,525.00.

Beneficiaries are Charlene Bawalan and Billy Nera from Kalinga, George Peckley III, and Ivy Krizzel Aowes from Mt. Province, Aldrin Joseph Recare and Mac Gyver Timbreza from Abra, Danica Alican, Berting Pataras, Judy May Pucdo, and Razel Arciso from Benguet, and Janice Lee Bilalay and John Glenn Dulnuan from Ifugao.

Reports from DA-CAR stated that aside from the additional income, the project ‘is also a way of encouraging the youth to engage in animal production and enterprise development emphasizing the importance of value-adding, processing, and marketing of their products.’

Recipient Charlene Bawalan

Bawalan, who is studying BS Bio-Systems Engineering at Kalinga State University, is from the municipality of Pasil.

According to a press release of DA-CAR, Bawalan received the agricultural inputs last December 2020, providing the housing and labor as her counterpart.

She also bought a solar panel to provide the lighting needs of her chicken layers while the technical assistance was extended by the Agricultural Technicians in Pasil.

As of July 2021, she recorded her gross sales to be around Php30, 000 since January 2021 and is still gaining. The project runs for about 30 months.

The recipient also shared that her school supplies, communication allowance for her online classes, and day-to-day needs of her family are coming from the sales of the project.

Bawalan expressed gratitude for having been chosen as a recipient of the project. She said that her experience serves as her training ground in relating theory and practice, especially in animal science subjects, and will be using her training in managing similar projects in the future.
