Husband and wife killed in tragic bus mishap in Isabela

Naguilian, Isabela – A couple died in a bus accident along San Manuel, Naguilian, Isabela amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm “Florita” on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

Naguilian Chief of Police Jurneil Perez, in an interview with 98.5 i-FM Cauayan, relayed that at around 11 AM, a Victory Liner bus from Tuguegarao City was traversing said area when the driver lost control of the brake, crashing into the electric post before overturning on its side.

Five passengers, along with the conductor, were injured and brought to the hospital for immediate medication.

Two of the five passengers, however, were declared dead on arrival.

Casualties were identified as the married couple Myrna Corpuz and Oliver Corpuz, both residing in P3 Andres Bonifacio, Diffun, Quirino.

Meanwhile, other victims include the bus conductor Richelle Dutdut Soller, 43, married, and a resident of Poblacion, Sta. Ana, Cagayan; and Dominador Antolin III Ronquillo, 23, single, and a resident of Dubinan, Arellano Street, Santiago City, Isabela.

Among the passengers were two personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Marvin Balinag Liban, 34, married, and a resident of Barangcuag, Angadanan, Isabela; and Wilmer Dumo Juan, 28, and a resident of Placer, Benito, Soliven, Isabela.

The bus driver, identified as Jerome Rivera, 46, and a resident of Calaocan, Santiago City did not sustain any injury.

Rivera will face Reckless Imprudence Resulting into Homicide, Physical Injuries, and Damage to Properties.

Earlier this month, a road collision along Maharlika Highway, Purok 6, Bone South, Aritao involving the same bus company killed a conductor.

Authorities warned drivers, especially of public transportation, to take extra precaution to avoid accidents that may lead to injuries and death.
