‘I believe it’s credible’ - Magalong on Baguio market fire findings

Baguio City, Philippines – Following the official report of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) regarding the cause of the fire that broke out at the Baguio City Public Market earlier this year, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said he believes the findings of the agency are credible.

The incident happened on March 11, 2023, leaving approximately P24 million in damages and displacing nearly two thousand vendors.

The BFP stated in their official report that a discarded cigarette is the probable cause of the blaze, and other speculations about the incident have been proved unlikely.

In his interview with the City Public Information Office, the mayor stated that the examinations are done by the experts thoroughly so he is satisfied with the findings.

“Sila naman ang expert diyan eh and they did their forensics pati yong parsing investigation, so sila yong authority diyan. So, so far, as I’m concern, pinagaralan naman nilang mabuti, nireview nilang mabuti yong kanilang findings, so I believe it’s a credible finding” he conveyed.
