Mt. Province, Philippines – After having to take labor jobs to earn money for his application, an Igorot breadwinner finally reaped the fruit of his hard work as he topped his Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Class this June 2023.

CO1 David Caimoy, 27, from Bauko, Mt. Province, now serving at the BuCor in Muntinlupa City, is the top 1 of Class 20-2022 “Mandatos” (Mananatiling may Dangal at Tapat sa Organisasyon at Serbisyo)”.

But before he got to where he is now, Caimoy had to go through some ups and downs over the past four years.

Fulfilling dreams

He recounted to GURU Press Cordillera that entering the uniformed service has always been his dream that’s why he joined the advanced Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in college to lay his foundation in discipline and likewise to improve his leadership and communication skills.

After finishing his Bachelor of Science in Criminology at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College in 2017 and passing the board exam in 2018, he took and passed the Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test and was able to finish his probationary training course in 2019.

As he went through the next stage of his application in the military, the Covid-19 pandemic came, completely destroying his plans. With this, he had to do labor jobs like delivering frozen foods to earn money for his family and also for his next application.

For Family

Being the firstborn among 4 children, he had to step up and help his mother provide for the family since they lost their father in 2012. What pushed him even further to try again for the uniformed service was the birth of his first child.

He got accepted at BuCor and took his oath in December 2022 and finished his training on top of his class last week of June 2023.

“Idiay kun nga inbuhos amin nga kayak, haan lang tapnu makabirok ti kuwarta nu ket makatulong met lang ti BuCor, makatulong ti dadduma nga tao ken ag-serve ti country. Isu nga diay training inaramid ko talaga kabaelak,” he said, adding he faced several challenges in his training and this includes homesickness and the physical activities.

All of these trials that he faced, he used them as his inspiration to strive harder and do better. Thus, leading him to top his class and become a full-fledged correction officer.
