Igorota marathoner wins international trail competition in Malaysia

Barlig, Mt. Province– Multi-awarded athlete, Sandi Menchi Abahan, from Barlig, Mountain Province again brought pride to the country after winning the 50 kilometers ‘Trail Run Championship’ held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on October 15-16, 2022.

Abahan competed in the Borneo Trail Classic 2022 finishing the 1st place and is expected to compete in another global event - the Spartan Trail World Championship – Elite category.

The international trail competition Abahan joined is under the Spartan Trail World Championship series where trail runners from around the world compete in 9 events on 5 continents.

The recently concluded event had 5 race categories - 7KM,10KM, 21KM, 50KM and 100KM, where racers ran through luscious jungles and serene rivers of Sarawak to be crowned the title of a true Spartan Warrior.

Racers who participated in the 50K and 100K will have the opportunity to join the Spartan Trail World Championship – Elite category to compete for cash prizes and championship points on a global leaderboard.

As recalled, the multi-awarded athlete won the World’s Highest Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) Champion in Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania where she earned a Guinness World Record title.
