Tabuk City, Kalinga – The elders along with the officials and authorities in Kalinga are now working and taking actions following the loss of three lives attributed to the continuing conflict between two sub-tribes in the province.

Through the Kalinga Provincial Information Office, the provincial government released a statement on Thursday morning, April 24, assuaging fears felt by the iKalingas after the shootout in San Julian, Tabuk City that killed three people.

“As to the Basao-Biga incident, the Provincial Peace and Order Council assures the public that the current situation is under control,” the PIO wrote, adding that the PNP, Philippine Army, and the Matagaoan Bodong Council and the Kalinga Bodong Council of Elders are taking actions to manage the incident.

Kalinga Governor James Sagmayao Edduba, meanwhile, asked the public not to be taken by fear as the conflict is between two sub-tribes.

“Governor James S. Edduba urges everyone to remain calm and composed, emphasizing that the conflict involves only two sub-tribes. He appeals to the public to allow the proper authorities to handle the matter and to avoid involving uninvolved groups or individuals,” the PIO further stated.

In an interview with the Governor, Edduba added that in such a situation it is best to avoid the spread of misinformation that can further fuel the conflict. The public can help by supporting the officials and elders of the tribes in their work to contain and provide solution to the conflict.

Edduba urges the people to pray for the province and practice good deeds to aid in the peaceful and harmonious co-existence of iKalingas.
