Ilagan City Deputy Prosecutor shot dead in Conner, Apayao


Conner, Apayao – The Deputy Prosecutor of Ilagan City, Victor Begtang, 49, was shot dead at his auto shop, near his house in Sitio Hanhan, Barangay Malama Conner Wednesday afternoon, June 23.


Police Lieutenant Carolyn Domyong, Officer in Charge of Conner police said the victim was repairing his truck at his auto shop around 2 o’clock in the afternoon with his two laborers when the killing happened.


The investigation said the three were having their coffee when Begtang suddenly saw a gunman at least 50 meters away with his gun pointing at them. The victim immediately alerted his laborers to run in different directions. Begtang, however, while running towards his house met another gunman resulting in him retreating back to the direction where he came from.

Unfortunately, he was cornered and was shot multiple times by the suspects.


The laborers later revealed they initially saw the second gunman entering their shop but they got scared and didn’t mention it. Begtang didn’t notice the second suspect for they were in between two trucks while doing their repair.


Begtang was rushed to Conner District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at around 2:49 PM.

“Uppat iti possible entrance of gunshot wounds na, maysa iti right chest, right lower armpit, ken 2 idiay left shoulder,” Domyong said.


The suspects, on the other hand, left the area and proceeded towards Malama Poblacion on their XRM motorcycle according to witnesses.


The motive is still being investigated by the police as the identities of the suspects are still unknown. Operations have been activated for the possible arrest of the gunmen.
