Natonin, Mt. Province – The Imajukayong tribe, an indigenous group from Natonin, Mt. Province, has set its 5th international Pilgrimage, Homecoming, Reunion (PHR) locally known as “Daguyo” from April 28 to 30, 2023.

Imajukayong indigenous peoples are from the outskirt villages of said province but have excelled in various fields and often demonstrated leadership in places where they settled.

The PHR was first staged in 2007 by the Maducayan Indigenous Peoples International (MIPI). The organization, with chapters in the USA, Canada, Asia, Metro Manila, Tabuk City, Kalinga, Paracelis in Mt. Province, and Baguio City, initiated another “Daguyo” in 2010, 2014, then in 2017. Just last year, the organization was registered as Ganak Imajukayong Peoples International, Inc. (GIPI).

The Imajukayong people, Atty. Basilio Wandag said, “felt the great need for them to congregate every three years to trace their roots, to know and bond with each other, to forge plans to remind them of their homeland a better place to live in, share memories, perform their cultural manifestations in songs, chants, musical instruments and dances, their genealogy.”

In addition, the PHR paves the way for the tribe to “give due recognition to achievers, deepen their knowledge of their ancestral domain and its resources, indigenous knowledge systems and practices, indigenous political structures, and language.”

The event is a pilgrimage for those who were born outside the Majukayong villages; a homecoming for the natives who have left for some time; and a reunion for the residents and those coming home.

The three-day PHR will commence with “Padatong” or arrival activities at Saliok Elementary School compound in Barangay Saliok, Natonin. The following day will be the main event called “Toyak” to be held at Maducayan Elementary School compound in Maducayan village.

Mt. Province lawmaker Maximo Dalog Jr. and Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. are expected to grace the festivities which will feature traditional dances and indigenous sports.

Literary musical contests for youth and adults in the vernacular and inspirational messages of the members of the organization from the locality and abroad will likewise be observed.

Imajukayongs from all over the world chipped in for the materials needed for the “Daguyo 2023” such as foods, and snacks, among others.
