Impostor posing as Baguio City Mayor scams restaurant owner

Baguio City, Philippines – An estafa case awaits a scammer after pretending to be the mayor of Baguio City to obtain liquor, food and cell phone load from a restaurant owner in this city.

The victim, Kevin Khoe, a restaurant owner in Lualhati, Baguio City filed a case against the unidentified suspect after the latter got a P2,100 cell phone load for three numbers from him.

In a police report gathered by Mountain Province Broadcasting Corporation, the suspect was said to have ordered three liquor bottles and food amounting to P24, 880 but cancelled it after knowing from the victim that they do not have the brand of liquor he requested.

Upon cancelling his order, the scammer told the owner he is buying load amounting to P2, 100 which the later responded to.

The restaurant owner realized that he had been duped when the contact number of the supposed mayor could no longer be contacted.

As recalled, this is not the first time that Magalong’s name was used as modus in scamming. Magalong’s name was used by scammers in 2019, targeting food establishment owners.

Some of these establishments include a health restaurant, which his wife frequently visits, a restaurant owned by a local located on Session Road, and a steak house near Pacdal.
