Improvised explosive, arms cache seized in Bontoc, Mt. Province

Bontoc, Mt. Province – A cache of arms fell into the hands of the police operatives on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.


Police Regional Office Cordillera and the government troops launched an operation in response to an intelligence operation, the Cordillera police regional unit said.

The operation was led by the operatives of Mt. Province Police Provincial Office, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, and the Philippine Army to track down the cache in the mountainous area of Mainit village in Bontoc, Mt. Province.


The operatives seized one piece of an improvised explosive device; one piece of an upper M16 receiver (barrel); two maps; fifty-one pieces of cartridge (5.56 ball); one M16 selector; one M16 bolt; one M16 forward assist; two pieces of bolt cam pin; one M16 plastic short magazine; and one M16 handguard.


Assorted clothes, medical supplies, and personal belongings believed to be owned by members of the Communist Terrorist Group were also found.


For documentation and proper disposition, the items were brought to the custody of the 1502nd Maneuver Company of RMFB15 in Tadian.


For possible recovery of other explosive devices, the operatives continue to search the adjacent areas.
