Incumbent Barangay Captain still believes one can win without buying votes

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Santiago "Santi" Soto Jr., the incumbent Punong Barangay of Dagupan Weste, aspires for a clean and fair polls this coming Barangay and SK Elections (BSKE) 2023, saying he will not engage in vote-buying to secure his position.

“Saanak nga gumatang ti butos ta nu mangabakak, kayat na saowen ket nangabakak by choice haan nga gapu ta naggatangak ti butos. Saanak pulos nga gumatang iti butos,” Soto expressed during an interview with Station 1 Radio.

Soto's political journey began in 2013 when he was elected as a Kagawad. He again ran for the same position in 2018, where he not only retained his seat but also emerged as the top choice among the Kagawads.

Soto said his victory in 2018 was unexpected as he relied solely on volunteers and donations from his supporters and friends, which he was unable to repay through monetary means. However, he wholeheartedly reciprocated their trust with dedicated service during his time as a Kagawad.

Throughout the elections until he assumed office as the Barangay Chairman in 2020, he maintained his stance against vote-buying.

One of his supporters told Station 1 Radio that if he is chosen, he gives his all to the barangay, and he truly cares about the people further saying that Soto’s commitment to the community is honest and his actions speak louder than any financial pay.

“Nu isu na ti mapili, adda isuna dita barangay, matatao isuna dita nga talaga mabaun ti tattao nga literal, ammo ti tattao dayta, am-ammo tayu met isuna.”

For Soto, his primary commitment is to provide sincere service with full transparency and shall work hard to uplift the lives of the constituents.

“Saanak nga gumatang pulos iti butos, umayak lang makipak-pakaasi, makigaygayyem nu mapanak kadagiti balbalay ket agayamanak ta sipupuso dak met nga tanggapen dagiti tattao uray nu awan iyawat ko nga kwarta,” he emphasized.
