Indiscriminate firing injures student in Tabuk City; police say incident not related to tribal conflict

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A student is now recuperating at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital after being hit by a bullet due to ‘indiscriminate firing’ afternoon of October 8 at Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The victim, a 12-year-old student, sustained injuries in her finger and thigh, according to police.

In an interview, Kalinga Police Provincial Information Officer Ruff Manganip relayed that the victim, along with her companions, was heading home at around 4 p.m. when the incident transpired.

Accordingly, when they reached the place of incident, specifically in front of the Kinwa Etnika Shop, the victim and two others heard a gunshot.

The victim later noticed that blood was oozing from her finger and her thigh. The two kids who were two meters behind her immediately run to aid the victim. She was later ferried to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

In connection, Manganip clarified that the incident is not related to any tribal conflict, which some ‘fake news peddler’ are insinuating on social media.

“Based on investigation, magmagna da idi bigla nga nakangngeg da iti putok ket bigla nga naramdaman na lattan nga adda agdardarra kanya na. Meaning, awan ti intent da nga paltugan isuna… Probability na daytoy ket haan nga shooting incident,” he explained.

Manganip then reminded the public anew to be discerning of information shared by individuals in different social media platforms.

Further investigation is still ongoing.
