Updated: Dec 28, 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Many motorists violating traffic rules may have notably found it more difficult to escape police checkpoints in Kalinga recently, but it played a crucial role in having a peaceful Holiday celebration.

While there are various exits and alternative routes drivers could take to avoid getting caught by police authorities, the Kalinga Police Provincial Office’s ‘frog leap’ checkpoint has made it harder for motorists to escape this time.

This ‘frog leap’ checkpoint, as relayed by Kalinga Police Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip to GURU Press Cordillera, is a moving checkpoint. Police officers will stay in one area for a certain period, and then they will move to another.

“Nu makita yu ket pina-igting mi dagitoy panag-checkpoint… isu nga ngumatngatu iti panagtiliw tayo kadagitoy awan helmet na, awan driver’s license na,” he said.

He added that Kalinga Police Director, PCol. Freddie Lazona deployed more police personnel to serve at checkpoints and to patrol around their areas of responsibility.

“Pinanayunan ni PD[Provincial Director] dagitoy patrollers tayo ken dagitoy ag-conduct iti checkpoints isu nga nu maminsan nu makita yu ket kabilaan iti checkpoints iti kapulisan tayo,” he explained.

This intensified checkpoint operations and patrolling played a significant part in having a peaceful Holidays in Kalinga. According to Manganip, no crimes or serious vehicular traffic incidents were reported in the province during this year’s Christmas Day.
