Tabuk City, Kalinga – An intermittent gunfire was heard at the disputed boundary between the Butbut and Betwagan tribes in the afternoon of August 23, 2021, raising alarm to residents.

Kalinga Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong, said they received a report about the incident, and when it was verified to the deployed uniformed men at the place, they said they heard around eleven intermittent gunfire.

The police cannot exactly pinpoint where the gunfire happened, but it was alleged that it occurred near the area where the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) team leader was shot on May 30, 2021.

Limmong said that they did not receive any report of anybody getting hurt during the incident at the nearby communities.

Meanwhile, a ‘Sipat’ to facilitate the resolution of the dispute between the warring tribes was recently suggested to pave the way to a ceasefire while negotiations are being done for the long-standing boundary dispute between Butbut and Betwagan.
