IP Month celebration in Kalinga centers on backing autonomy bill

Tabuk City, Kalinga – In celebration of Indigenous People’s month this year, the people of Kalinga demonstrated support to the pursuit of autonomy bill in the region.

Director Marilou Alngag of KSU, during a meeting with the local media, emphasized that Cordillera autonomy is the highlight of the IP month celebration and that it is an opportune time to encourage the public to participate in discussions of the importance and benefits of self-governance.

“Nakita idi conceptualization na daytoy a Regional Summit iti daytuy nga Indigenous Peoples Month ket mas napinpintas ken mas makabuluhan isuna nu ti pagtutungtungan tayo ket concern iti entero nga Cordillera, isu daytuy nga awtonomiya…isu nga nga dayta nga event tatta nga October, IP Month Commemoration, ket nakasentro isuna iti Autonomy,” said Alngag.

On Monday, October 17, Kalinga held the Cordillera Autonomy Regional Summit at Kalinga State University. The launching of a signature campaign in support of the autonomy bill was also conducted alongside the event.

The summit aimed at determining the genuine sentiments of the yKalingas.

The event brought together stakeholders, officials, and students of the said university as well as officials of the province including Congressman Mangaoang, Office of the governor presented by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. John Paul S. Baguiwan, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab of Tinglayan, and Board Member Mark Aldrich Diasen.

Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., represented by Officer-In-Charge Deputy Presidential Adviser for Operations Susan Marcaida, graced the event.

Autonomy advocates, meantime, encouraged the public to join in the discussion of Bodong which will be held on October 19. Additionally, discussion on Indigenous People’s rights will be done on October 21.

The launching of Lumin-Awa Cultural Festival shall be on October 24. These events will be held at KSU Gym, Bulanao Campus.
