A police officer from Isabela proves that he cannot only protect the public from unscrupulous individuals, he can also save them from a road crash.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Roland Gacal was among the passengers of the Victory Liner bus that crashed into a house in Tuguegarao City Wednesday morning, February 8.

38-year-old Roland told 92.9 Brigada News FM Cauayan that he sat at the vacant seat behind the driver.

From his position, he noticed the driver’s hand shaking, then all of a sudden his body stiffened and he foamed at the mouth.

The driver completely lost control of the bus but before it could slam against an approaching vehicle, Roland took the courage to step in instead of running at the back to cover.

Roland held the steering wheel but the driver’s foot was still on the accelerator pedal and he couldn’t find the handbrake. For this reason, he opted to direct the bus into a wall to keep it from hitting other vehicles and people and to save the passengers inside.

Some of the passengers reportedly sustained minor injuries while the driver was rushed to the hospital. He was said to have hypertension and he also sustained injuries due to the crash.

In a Facebook post, Roland thanked the Creator for taking care of them. He likewise noted that he will do what it takes to save people.

“Salamat Ama iningatan mo ako... Akala ko katapusan ko na... Mahirap palang makipag agawan ng manubela ng Victory Bus... Gagawin mo lahat mailigtas lng buhay ng mga tao,” he wrote.
