Jeepney driver faces charges after fatally running over 27-yr.-old woman in Baguio

Baguio City, Philippines – The driver of the public utility jeepney is now facing charges after fatally running over a 27-year-old woman Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, 2023, in Baguio City.

The victim was crossing the street at the intersection of Otek Street and Bautista Street at 7:44 a.m. when she was struck by the jeepney with a panel route Baguio-Buyagan-La Trinidad, the city police stated.

The driver came from Shuntug Street and was turning left towards the staging area at Salvosa Drive when he accidentally hit the woman.

Responding personnel from Baguio Emergency Medical Service and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to the hospital but eventually died due to the severe traumatic brain injury she sustained from the incident.

The victim was identified as Engr. Melissa Fritz Lumawig, a Junior Laboratory Analyst of Philex Mining Corporation. Her remains lie at their residence in Asin Road and will be ferried to their home town in Zambales tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the driver named Paul Gansowen Angyab is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
