‘Justice should continue to prevail in the society’ - Gov. James Edduba

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Governor James Edduba, during the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Regional Convention on Monday, November 25, stressed the value of maintaining justice as a pillar of a prosperous and peaceful community.

The convention, which gathered lawyers across Northern Luzon at the Kalinga Astrodome on said date, was held to discuss and consider fundamental principles like fairness, honesty, and moral responsibility that apply to the legal profession and society at large.

The Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Marvic Mario Victor Leonen, visited Kalinga, went to the event, and served as the guest speaker.

Governor Edduba, in his speech, emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between justice and right, which he described as essential not only for preserving the integrity of the legal profession but also for ensuring public trust in the judicial system.

“This is our balance against the demands of right and justice. This balance not only preserves the integrity of the legal profession but also offers first-class confidence in the judiciary as an international issue,” he stated.

The governor emphasized how these ideals are very important to iKalingas, whose tribal ties place a strong emphasis on respect and loyalty. In order to preserve justice and fairness, according to him, attorneys must put aside their personal relationships as defenders of the rule of law.

"For us in Kalinga, our tribal affiliations emphasize a strong balance of loyalty and respect. Yet, as guardians of the rule of law, our lawyers must transcend these personal ties when they challenge the principles of fairness and justice," he said.

He also discussed the wider role that the lawyers play in society and urged them to uphold moral principles both in their work and as engaged citizens who are dedicated to advancing the common good.

“The security reminds us that our world is with allegiance to the law and that our actions must align with the great good, even when it requires dignity,” he added.

Edduba concluded his address by calling on the lawyers to honor their commitment to justice and to always uphold the principles of fairness and equality, saying, “Be sure to let justice continue; continue to prevail in our society. “
