Tabuk City, Kalinga – In a time where electric fans, aircons, and cold drinks become immediate needs, it only means one thing – higher power rates.

Towards the end of March this year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the start of the warm and dry or ‘summer’ season with heat index reaching to or over 40 degrees Celsius in the country.

The Energy Regulatory Commission last month conveyed that prices on the spot market suddenly hiked as the heart index soared. The public, they added, must not expect a reduction in their April billing.

Just recently, the Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative, INC.(KAELCO) advised their consumers to expect ‘potentially’ higher electrical bills this month with the increasing demand in electricity prompted by the hot temperature.

“Prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market are increasing as we approach this summer. To manage your electricity consumption, consider turning off lights and appliances when not in use and using energy-efficient appliances,” KAELCO advised.
