Kalinga adopts NCIP Chairperson Sibug-las as daughter, names her ‘Dinayaw’


Tabuk City, Kalinga – National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-las is now a daughter of Kalinga Province.


Sibug-las graced the province’s celebration of the 2023 Indigenous Peoples Month and 26th Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) Commemoration at the Astrodome on Oct. 23 where she was officially adopted as Kalinga offspring.

The NCIP chair was given the name ‘Dinayaw’ which means a beautiful, generous, and hospitable person.


The provincial government headed by Governor James Edduba through a resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan August body acknowledged Sibug-las’s dedication to public service and commitment to implementing rules and policies for the protection of the indigenous people.


Among her remarkable service is leading the "Oplan Bayanihan” during the pandemic, rescuing stranded IPs in various places in the country.


Now that she’s a daughter of the province, Sibug-las, as mentioned by the Kalinga Provincial Information Office, will enjoy the privileges and protection of the Bodong Justice System.


After celebrating with the yKalingas, the NCIP chairperson faced the media in the evening and led the panel during the press conference hosted by the provincial government.
