Kalinga and Apayao get share from P782M NIA heavy equipment to improve irrigation system services

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Two of the largest irrigation systems in Region CAR got their share from the P782 million worth heavy equipment procured to improve irrigation services, a move that is part of the 2nd Tranche of National Irrigation Administration 3-Year Refleeting Program from CY 2023-2025.

 

Kalinga Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) received three excavators and one truck tractor with a trailer, while Apayao’s West Apayao Abulug Irrigation System (WAAIS) got two excavators and a dump truck.

 

The seven heavy equipment were delivered at the NIA-Kalinga Irrigation Management Office and were blessed on Wednesday, August 21. The equipment was deployed following the ceremony.

 

The heavy equipment will be utilized in the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, particularly desilting operations. They shall likewise be used for the preparation of farmlands this wet season.

 

To recall, said units were among 148 units of heavy equipment turned over personally by President Ferdinand Marcos during an event held on August 7 in Pampanga.

 

The president, in his message during the event, underscored the importance of the procured equipment to ensure agricultural abundance and to respond to the challenges of climate change.

 

Marcos also committed the administration’s continued support to the farmers while ensuring that the government will also work in advancing and modernizing the agricultural sector.

 

“Kailanman, hindi po namin kayo pababayaan. Habang ginagawa nating maunlad at moderno ang sektor ng agrikultura, hindi natin kalilimutan at iiwanan ang bawat magsasakang Pilipino,” the President conveyed.
