Kalinga and Mt. Province to meet for boundary dispute settlement

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Officials and elders of involved parties in the long-standing conflict between Tinglayan, Kalinga and Sadanga, Mt. Province are expected to attend a dialogue scheduled this week to settle the tribal boundary dispute.

Cordillera top cop, Brigadier General David Peredo Jr. and Regional Director of Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Cordillera, Engr. Ralph C. Pablo will likewise join the peace talk between Butbut and Betwagan tribes.

The dialogue specifically aims to reach a ceasefire agreement to ensure that no untoward incident will happen, while the boundary dispute is being resolved, Peredo said in his interview with Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC.

“Natapos na sana ito noon kaya lang parang nag-a-ano sila dahil kung anong napag-agree-han noon is medyo may problem ulit,” he said.

Previous efforts to restore the severed peace pact between the involved tribes failed, triggering violence that claimed lives from both sides.

The latest incident related to the dispute transpired in April 2023 when a hunter from Barangay Bekigan, Sadanga was killed.

Pablo is set to present the map of around 200 hectares of land that caused tension between the feuding tribes.

The dialogue will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, at the Multi-purpose Hall of Camp Capt. Juan M. Duyan in Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
