Kalinga bans entry of hogs, poultry and by-products to prevent entry of ASF and Avian virus

Tabuk City, Kalinga – To prevent the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF) Virus and Avian Influenza Virus, the provincial government of Kalinga mandated a temporary ban on the entry of swine and fowls and their by-products into the province.

The ban is for those who come from areas with positive incidents of ASF and Avian Flu to make sure the said viruses which affected other provinces will not infect animals and affect hog and chicken farmers in the province.

The decision is contained in an executive order dated August 23 issued by Governor James Edduba.

Under said order, the transportation and buying of live swine, all domestic and wild birds, and their products and by-products, including day-old chicks, eggs, semen, and manure are prohibited.

The provincial government cited the report of the Department of Agriculture as a basis on the provinces that are not allowed to transact with the province in the meantime in terms of hogs, poultry, non-poultry and their by-products.

For ASF-affected provinces, mentioned were the provinces of La Union, Bulacan, Tarlac, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Marinduque, Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Aklan, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Zamboanga Del Sur, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan Del Sur, Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur and Basilan.

It was also in July and this month that reports on the significant increase in cases of ASF were made in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, the municipalities of Villaviciosa, Malibcong, Bucloc, Tineg, Sallapadan, Boliney, Lagayan, Manabo, Bangued, Bucay and Tayum in the province of Abra.

The same occurrences were observed in the municipalities of Enrile and Iguig in Cagayan; Angadanan and San Guillermo in Isabela and Sta. Fe, Dupax Del Norte, Dupax Del Sur and Bambang in Nueva Vizcaya.

As for the Avian Influenza Virus, the province temporarily prohibits transactions in terms of all types of birds that come from the municipalities of Candaba and Mexico in Pampanga, the municipality of La Trinidad in Benguet, and San Antonio and Talavera in Nueva Ecija.

In the province, there is a temporary ban of inter-municipal transportation of said animals and their by-products once infection happens.

“In the event that the same diseases are detected in other areas other than aforementioned, a temporary ban coming from these areas shall also be imposed automatically even without an issuance of another Executive Order,” the order emphasized.
