Kalinga BM Langkit pushes for P430 minimum wage for job orders

Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the Chairman of the Civil Service and Human Resource Development Committee, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Danzel Langkit is now pushing for the increase of minimum wages of job orders within the provincial government.

The move, according to Langkit, is to give appreciation to job order workers for their excellent delivery of basic social services to the iKalingas.

If the ordinance is approved, the minimum rate for JOs would be P430 a day.

In an interview, Atty. Langkit, the author of the ordinance, explained that under the minimum wage prescribed by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, only employees of private companies and enterprises were covered.

Since job orders are under the Civil Service Commission, they only get a pay equivalent to the salary grade their ranks belong.

In addition, JO workers do not receive bonuses, benefits and allowances, thus the increase in their daily rate is a fair decision.

A similar ordinance was earlier pushed wherein the prescribed minimum wage was P380, but since there was another adjustment for the minimum wage for private employees, the ordinance amending the said ordinance was crafted anew to be on par with the wage increase.

The ordinance, if approved, will take effect starting on January 1, 2025.

Co-author of said ordinance is Board Member Tony Almeda Bakilan.
