Tabuk City, Kalinga -  Kalinga District 1 Board Member  Atty. Danzel Langkit underscored the critical role of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the province, calling them the "backbone" of the community health system while expressing his appreciation for their relentless works.

Atty. Langkit, who chairs the SP Kalinga Committee on Health, made this remark during the BNS Congress organized by the Provincial Government last Friday, December 6, 2024.

The congress was held to recognize the contributions of said barangay medical workers as well as to strengthen the collaboration on strategies to improve medical services in the province, according to the Kalinga Information Office.

During the activity, Langkit spoke before the BNS and emphasized their indispensable role in ensuring the health and well-being of their respective barangays where they are assigned.

Among the health workers’ duties he mentioned include maternal care, monitoring health statistics, child growth and nutrition tracking, and supplemental feeding programs to combat malnutrition.

As the health needs of a community rely mostly on them, Langkit lauded their efforts, adding that the health of the people in the barangays depends upon their hard work.

"Dakayu iti tulang (backbone) iti healthy community ti barangay. Iti salun-at iti barangay ket nakasalalay kenyayo nga health workers," he said.

As for the needs of the BNS, Langkit assured  them that the PLGU is working seriously to ensure resources are there to support them, saying,  “Maamiris ti gobyerno, maarimis tayo iti kasapulan yo nga dapat iti assistance…Dagitoy budget tayo ti probinsiya nabinga-bingay ket an-anusan yo koma dayta maaw-awat yo."

In recognition of their roles, cash rewards and special gifts such as rice tokens from the Offices of the Provincial Governor and Vice Governor were distributed to the scholars  during the activity.

As the Chairman on Health, Langkit continues to collaborate with various agencies and enact ordinances to improve the healthcare system in the communities of Kalinga, ensuring that the health needs of iKalingas are effectively addressed.
