Tabuk City, Kalinga - As part of its ongoing mission to enhance digital connectivity in the province, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) continues to expand internet access in Kalinga through the deployment of Starlink satellite units which can help improve services to clients.

The agency, through its provincial office led by Provincial Officer Mona Lisa Vizcarra, turned over three additional Starlink units to the provincial government on Tuesday, April 8.

Kalinga Governor James Sagmayao Edduba expressed gratitude to the DICT and personally received the units. Said units are part of the 60 Starlink units he requested from the agency to provide better connectivity in Kalinga PLGU offices and other areas needing stable internet signals.

According to the report of the province’s information office, the project supports the DICT’s Free Wifi for All Program and aligns with the governor’s LUMIN-AWA Eight-Point Agenda for ICT development in the province.

The Starlink units will be installed at key locations within the Kalinga provincial capitol: the third floor of the enterprise building, the provincial capitol canopy, and the Kalinga sports center.

Each Starlink device will provide a 200-meter radius of free internet service, directly benefiting the public and clients accessing services at these government hubs/locations.

The Kalinga PIO added that installation is already underway and is expected to be completed soon, offering improved and more reliable internet access to the iKalingas and visitors alike.

In addition to these said sites, similar units are scheduled for installation at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital (KPH) and other district hospitals in the province. Units designated for Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) will be distributed to the respective barangays, municipalities, and public spaces in the coming weeks.

The project is expected to be fully implemented by the agency at the end of the current quarter.
