The escapade, which is one of the highlights of the 4th Bodong Festival, began on February 2, 2023.

Trekkers ventured into Balatoc-Colayo in Pasil to Tulgao in Tinglayan, during the event, they did not just hike but also experienced camping, river crossing, and forest bathing.

More or less 150 trekkers were from Baguio, Benguet, Pampanga, Manila, Cagayan and Isabela, Ifugao, and Mt. Province while the remaining numbers are from Kalinga.

At first, almost 300 participants journeyed from Sulfur Hills in Balatoc to Colayo Pasil but after catching sight of the Sulfur Mountain and experiencing the fun night at the campsite area at the Colayo River, some decided to get back to the city.

Over a hundred trekkers, including the quick response team, bravely continued the journey until Tulgao, Tinglayan, according to Provincial Information Officer Dionica Mercado.

When asked about the distance, Mercado said the distance from Colayo to Tulgao is 15.8 kilometers and could be hiked for 8-10 hours depending on the pace of the trekker.

The ‘Blue Mountain’

As shared by Mercado in an interview with local media, a new discovery was made while trekkers were at the Hugwiik Falls as behind the seven-layered falls, a ‘blue mountain’ was caught by an aerial shot of the event’s documentation team.

Mercado said they will forward the photos to appropriate offices for further studies and will soon invite experts to unravel the secret behind the ‘blue mountain’.

“It is a neon blue, wide yung kanyang area, whole portion of the area is color blue,” Mercado shared.
