Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum to be constructed in 2023

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The construction of the Kalinga Cultural Center will begin next year, according to an official of the Provincial Local Government of Kalinga.

The bill authored by Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang seeking its construction was signed into law last May.

The development was relayed by Provincial Tourism Officer and Local Cultural Affairs Officer Lorraine Ngao-i during a meeting held Wednesday, September 21 at the Provincial Tourism Office.

The center, if erected, will serve as an institutional medium for the collection, preservation, and enhancement of the cultural, artistic, archeological, social, and religious heritage of the people of Kalinga.

As disclosed by Ngao-i, there are still several steps to be done before the building will be erected at the prospect location at the capitol grounds which is beside the Kalinga Sports Center – a lot of about 3,500 square meters. The lot shall be the counterpart of the Kalinga PLGU.

Steps to be done include the finalization of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) and a Memorandum of Agreement signed between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the provincial government.

Following the MOA signing, Ngao-i disclosed that the provision of budgetary requirements will follow.

In an earlier report by Guru Press Cordillera, it was relayed that P50 million is expected to be disbursed to the provincial government for the construction of the main building of the center.

As for its architectural design, it was previously reported that the members of the United Architects of the Philippines - Kalinga Chico River Chapter volunteered to design the center.

The group will first coordinate with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the National Museum of the Philippines, and other concerned agencies for the requirements before laying out the design.

Through a presentation by the tourism office, it was known the museum will include a space for exhibition, archives, archaeological finds, a gallery, literature, artifacts, and an art section.

RA 11770 or An Act Establishing the Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum

President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the bill last May 24 filed by Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang regarding the establishment of the Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum.

This is alongside other bills with the aim of establishing the same government buildings in Misamis Oriental and Biliran.
