Updated: Jun 21

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The number of students qualifying for the Department of Science and Technology scholarship grant in Kalinga increased this year with 11 students passing the exam.

Said number is about 54 percent higher from the number of passers last year where only six individuals made it. There are 201 qualifiers in the Cordillera region this 2024.

For the yKalinga qualifiers, DOST Kalinga said that 6 of these are under the Merit Scholarship Program, a grant for students with high aptitude in science and mathematics, while 5 of them were under RA 7687 scholarship program, the grant intended for talented and deserving students who belong to economically-disadvantaged families.

Said students are Raymundo Aguilar, Zachary Cabalan, Maverick Cosmiano, Bernadette Tulauan, Chloe Kindipan, Jami Maslan, Edwin Patagan, Michelle Pimentel, Angelo Rosales and Vencent Yamo.

The documents submitted by Cabalan, Patagan and Rosario, however, will be subject for revalidation.

Being an exam passer, these students are expected to take courses related to basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

After taking oath sometime this year, the qualifiers will start enjoying the perks of being a grantee of said scholarship program.

These include a monthly stipend of P7,000, a tuition fee subsidy of up to P40,000 per academic year, and P10,000 yearly learning materials and/or connectivity allowance.

They will also receive P1,000 PE/MS allowance; one economy-class round trip fare per year for those studying outside the province; premium group health and accident insurance; P10,000 thesis allowance; and P1,000 graduation allowance.

To recall, a promotional activity dubbed ‘Namnama Para Kadagiti Adda Arapaap Na’ was held in far-flung communities in the province before the exam, with the aim of further disseminating the program and promoting Science and Technology education opportunities during the search for the program’s beneficiaries.
