Kalinga holds another Art in the Park to preserve cultural heritage, showcase local artists' talents

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Now in its second year, ‘Art in the Park’ in Kalinga has once again gathered together local artists in Kalinga on Friday, Sept. 29, to showcase their artistic prowess while promoting Kalinga culture.

Apart from canvas painting, this year’s episode also included artists who are into tote bag painting.

The local artists who joined are of different backgrounds and age groups, of which the majority are college students.

Twenty of them worked on canvas paintings, while the remaining 15 artists focused on tote bag paintings.

Artworks, in the meantime, depicted the rich cultural heritage of Kalinga—from food, tapestries, the art of tattooing, rituals, customs, and traditions, among others.

“The event highlighted the importance of supporting local artists and their contributions to preserving and promoting cultural heritage. It served as a reminder that art is not just a form of expression but also a powerful tool for cultural preservation and community engagement. This will also encourage local artists to continue their passion for painting,” Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i stated.

To recall, Ngao-i relayed that the top 5 artworks in canvas painting will receive P2,500 each in cash prizes. Their artworks, meantime, will be forwarded to the Department of Tourism-Cordillera.

As for the 15 other artists, they received P500 each.

While there was no incentive awarded to tote bag painters, they, however, were given tokens from the Provincial Tourism Office.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Tourism Office now calls on art lovers and collectors to purchase the artworks crafted by the Kalinga local artists.

“Directly message the Kalinga Tourism, Philippines Facebook page for interested buyers. The proceeds will be given to the artist who created the artwork,” the office wrote.
