Kalinga holds first ‘Art in the Park’ to promote culture, showcase local artists’ works


Tabuk City, Kalinga - The first ‘Art in the Park’ event in the province concluded on Friday, September 30, with 29 local artists in Kalinga from different sectors participating and showcasing their artworks.


These arts depict the culture of yKalingas.


The local artists came from the Philippine National Police, students, provincial government employees, religious sector and members of Guimpong guild.


Alongside the exhibition of how artists do their craft, a mini-concert by local bands in the province was also conducted. One of the local singers who showed up is the singer of ‘Binungor’ and Sissiwit – Hilair Wacdagan.

Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i, who spearheaded the event, expressed gratitude to all the participants for their positive response as well as to the Department of Tourism – Cordillera for bringing the event to Kalinga.


Said event which is done yearly in Baguio for four years now have been decided by the regional tourism department to be conducted in all provinces of the region not just to help local artists who were affected by the pandemic but also to craft artworks that will showcase the solidarity of the region in making tourism as the main catalyst for recovery and transformation while highlighting unique Cordilleran culture and identity.


Ngao-i, in an earlier interview, said the artworks crafted by the local artists will be displayed for auction during the month-long celebration of the Indigenous People’s month celebration this October.

After the exhibit in Kalinga, top 5 paintings will be sent to DOT-Regional Office in Baguio on November for display and auction during the Art in the Park in the summer capital.


Proceeds of the artworks will be given to its respective artists.
