Kalinga is second fastest-growing economy in Cordillera

Tabuk City, Kalinga –  Kalinga province posted P27.31 billion gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, or a 9.3 percent growth rate compared to the P24.82 billion GDP in 2021.

 

Kalinga is next to Baguio City which was recognized as the fastest-growing economy in Cordillera. The summer capital recorded 11.3 percent growth rate.

 

Next to Kalinga is Abra Province, which noted a 9.2 percent growth rate.

 

In the data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority - Kalinga, it was disclosed that services had the largest share in the GDP, which accounts for 66.8 percent of the total economy.

 

Industry also helped in the economic growth, sharing 19.2 percent, while agriculture, forestry, and fishing accounted for 14.1 percent.

 

In the performance of the 16 industries, all recorded positive growth except for agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

 

The top industry with the highest growth rate is accommodation and food services (42.4 percent).

 

It is followed by other services such as arts, culture, recreational activities, personal services, and others with 29.6 percent, and transportation and storage, 27 percent.

 

Meanwhile, in the P337.66 billion 2022 GDP of the region, Kalinga has a share of 8 percent. Baguio has the largest share at 45.9 percent, followed by Benguet at 23.3 percent.

 

In agriculture, forestry, and fishing, Kalinga is the second-top sharer with 13.6 percent, while in the industry sector, a 6.2 percent share was contributed by the province.

 

To recall, Cordillera was the second fastest in terms of economic growth, with an 8.7 percent growth rate, next to Region VI in 2022.
