Updated: Nov 9, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The month-long Cordillera Autonomy Regional Summit in the province culminated with the commitment to a continuous call for regional autonomy on November 4 at the Kalinga Astrodome.

The Cordillera Autonomy Regional Summit was held in Kalinga to back the call for autonomy in the region. Among the activities held during the celebration is the launching of the Signature Campaign for the Autonomous Region of Cordillera.

In his message during the culminating activity, Kalinga State University President Eduardo Bagtang assures that the academe will take the lead in advocating the aspiration of self-governance of the Cordillerans. He likewise guarantees support to the local leaders, who are the ones bringing the call to the congress.

“We then call on our youth, our students in the Kalinga State University to take the lead in our communities in advocating for this aspiration,” he added.

Kalinga Governor James Edduba who was represented by Provincial Administrator Teddy Gullay affirmed that the leaders will continue to fight for autonomy, encouraging the constituents in Kalinga to help in any way they can such as educating themselves about autonomy and enlightening other people about the quest.

“We call upon yKalingas. Let us help in any way we can to achieve … autonomy for the Cordilleras,” he said.

Kalinga Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, meantime, conveyed confidence in the commitment of the different provinces and the two cities of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

“More than ever, we are all confident. I, myself, am confident that we have overwhelming support from all our provinces and the City of Baguio and the City of Tabuk, which at this time could anchor the passage of the autonomy,” he expressed.

The renewed call for an Autonomous Region of Cordillera is the third attempt of the region after gaining the majority of ‘no’ votes in the first two plebiscites for self-governance.
