Kalinga logs 51 Road accidents from Jan. to Mar.; solutions to curb numbers proposed

Updated: Jun 5

Tabuk City, Kalinga – From January to March this year, 61 iKalingas became victims of road crashes, as per record of the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

Kalinga police, in the meantime, said they have listed 51 traffic accidents, for the first quarter of 2024.

Having relayed said data during a meeting by the Kalinga Kapehan Body on Monday, June 3, plans have been proposed to lessen road accidents in the province.

These include the amendment or creation of ordinances relative to the prohibition of constituents from driving a motorcycle without a helmet, those who do not have a driver’s license, and those with unregistered motor vehicles.

Since the majority of road accidents involved students, the body also suggested collaborating with school administrators to identify those who do not have the necessary permit to drive. They will then be encouraged to undergo proper registration of vehicles and get their license to operate a vehicle.

As for the Department of Trade and Industry, they were asked by the body to regulate the sale of motor vehicles to those who are not eligible to drive.

Further, since astray animals on the road were also to blame for some road accidents, the body recommended that local chief executives should work on amending existing ordinances regarding astray animals.

Municipalities, according to them, should prohibit the presence of cattle and poultry animals on national and provincial roads and penalize owners of said animals.

Meantime, health facilities in various areas in the province, through a proposed ordinance, will be required to submit road crash data to police for them to execute a proper investigation.
