Kalinga now at ‘high epidemic risk level’ with rising Covid-19 cases


Tabuk City, Kalinga- After recording 59 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, August 19, 2021, the province of Kalinga was declared at ‘high epidemic risk level’ classification. As recalled, the Province of Kalinga was put under critical risk and was ranked 3rd nationwide with the most COVID-19 cases last January 20, 2021, having logged 102 cases in one day.

The 59 new COVID-19 cases found in municipalities with their respective barangays are the following:

·Balbalan; Balbalan Proper- 1

· Lubuagan; Mabilong-6

· Tabuk City; Lacnog-11, Laya East-5, Bulanao Norte- 4, Bulanao Centro-3, Dagupan Centro, Dagupan West- 3, Agbannawag-2, Cudal- 2, Ipil-2, San Julian- 2, Amlao- 1, Balong- 1, Calanan-1, Casigayan-1, Dilag-1, Malin-awa-1, Nambaran-1

· Pinukpuk; Pakawit-1, Junction-1

· Pasil; Ableg-1, Cagaluan-1

· Rizal; Calaocan-1, Liwan East-3

In the Data from PHO and TB Dots as COVID-19 Operation Center and Surveillance, there are 229 positive cases in the province recorded from January to August 19, 2021.


These newly recorded cases were confined to their designated quarantine or isolation areas with the help of their respective Local Government Units.


Meanwhile, Governor Ferdinand Tubban, through Provincial Information Officer Dionica Alyssa Mercado, urged all local government units in the province to concentrate their efforts in implementing proper measures and interventions to affected barangays to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 infections.

In support of the health sectors, the province is also seeking the assistance of media partners in reminding the public to avoid the three C’s to help contain the spread of the virus. Three Cs’ include 1. Closed spaces with poor ventilation. 2. Crowded places with many people nearby and 3. Close-contact settings.


The public should avoid crowded places with many people nearby, Close-contact settings especially where people have close-range conversations and confined and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation. The governor reiterated that the community should not solely rely on the government. He then encouraged the community to take part by simply having vaccinations, following the LGU guidelines, minimum health protocols, and self-care to boost the immune system.


Recently, the province issued an Executive Order No. 29 Series of 2021 following the Guidelines of the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) with Heightened Restrictions Considering the threat of Covid-19 Variants.
