Tabuk City, Kalinga – Officials, heads of offices, and employees in Kalinga signed a manifesto of support for the establishment of the Cordillera Autonomous Region on July 03 at the Kalinga Astrodome.

The signing happened during the kick-off ceremony of the 36th Cordillera month celebration in the province which was attended by the provincial to barangay leaders, chiefs of offices, and the local government and national line-agencies employees.

The pronouncement emphasizes, “Regional autonomy is the most viable strategy to accelerate the economic and social growth and development of all the units in the Cordillera which will contribute to national development.”

Signing the manifesto means committing full support to the quest for regional autonomy as its establishment would ‘be the legacy of this present generation for the benefit of the future generations to come’.

Apart from the signing, there was also a mock plebiscite conducted at the event.

Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang represented by Reginald Wacas informed that the House Bill 3267 which seeks for the creation of an Autonomous Region for the Cordilleras is now in the Committee on Appropriations of the Congress.

The seven representatives in the Cordillera are working for the bill’s approval in the Lower House by next month and its transmittal to the Upper House by September this year.
