Kalinga officials honor life, legacy of FIRST woman board member of Kalinga-Apayao

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Leaders and officials in Kalinga honored the life and legacy of Kalinga-Apayao’s first lady board member, Illuminada Anniban Duyan, through a Necrological Service at the Provincial Capitol on Monday, January 27.

 

Illuminada, the wife of former Governor and Congressman Juan M. Duyan, Kalinga-Apayao’s first elected governor, held office from 1972 to 1980. She passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 100.


Among Duyan’s remarkable legacy in public service is championing women’s rights and development initiatives which encouraged iKalinga women to take bold steps in contributing to progress.

 

During the service, the provincial government led by Governor James Edduba presented Resolution No. 2025 – 039 to the late lady board member’s family. It is a posthumous award recognizing her ‘exemplary leadership, legislative achievements, and dedication to public service’.

 

According to the Duyan family, the remains of the late lady board member were brought to Naneng this Wednesday, January 29. She will be laid to rest at the Duyan-Anniban private cemetery at said barangay on February 1.
