Kalinga ‘Pangat’ Pastor Luis Ao-as passes away at 73

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Retired Reverend Pastor Luis Ao-as, the Basao tribe ‘pangat’ or peace pact holder in Kalinga passed on January 23, 2022, at the age of 73, his family revealed.


One of his relatives, Abraham Gayyaman, disclosed in an interview that the late tribal chieftain had been repeatedly admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia and arthritis. He was last admitted a week ago to the Almora General Hospital, where he drew his last breath yesterday.


Ao-as is survived by his wife Vicki and their four children. His remains lie at their residence in Purok 2, Bulanao Norte, Tabuk City.

Ao-as devoted his life by actively involving his services for socio-cultural affairs and peace pact negotiations of different tribes in the province until his final years, proving his peace mission.


He was likewise the former President of Kalinga-Apayao Religious Sector (KARSA) and retired Clergy of Lutheran Church in the Philippines.

He was referred by other officials as a great mentor and a humble leader.


Kalinga elders took to social media their sympathies and tribute to the peace negotiator, stressing his significant contributions to the culture and peace of the province.
