Straight from his Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships win, yKalinga para athlete Jerrold Pete Mangliwan prepares for four more international games this year.

Jerrold didn’t disappoint the country and Kalinga in the recently concluded 5th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships held in India from May 04 – 07, 2023 as he collected a gold medal in Men’s 400m T52-54 and silver in Men’s 100m T52-54.

Four days after said competition, Jerrold is back at his training camp in Pasig to gear up for the Asean Para Games 2023 which will be hosted by Cambodia next month.

Jerrold’s schedule this year is quite busy as he will also be competing in the World Para Athletics 2023 in France in July; Asian Games 2023 in China in October; and the International Wheelchair Amputee Sports Games in Thailand in December.

Having been playing and amassing medals for the Philippines for the past 18 years, Jerrold told GURU Press Cordillera that pressure is among the challenges he has to overcome when preparing for a game.

“I think yong pressure lang siguro to perform well kasi yong expectation kasi minsan is high lalo na sa amin matagal na sa sports,” he explained.

Jerrold is a native of Dupag and Naneng, Tabuk City. He attended Kalinga Christian Learning Center and St. Theresita’s School Lubuagan in high school. He went to Manila to spend his college years at the Trinity University of Asia where his career in Para Sports started.

Among his latest achievements include delivering two golden performances for the country in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games.
