Kalinga Paralympian Did it Again: Mangliwan wins 4 medals in World Para Athletics Games

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Another set of medals has been taken home by Kalinga’s very own Jerrold Pete Mangliwan from the 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi, India on March 11 – 13.

 

The event which celebrated athleticism, inclusivity, and global unity drew around 280 athletes from 20 nations in the world. These players competed in 98 events in the 3-day activity, which was described to be one of the largest para-athletics games hosted by India.

 

Among the Philippine delegation sent to compete is national para-athlete Mangliwan who hails from Tabuk City. During the event, Mangliwan raced in four events, and bagged four medals: gold in the men 400m T52, T53, T54; another gold in Men 800m T52, T53, T54; silver in Men 1500m T52, T53, T54; and bronze in the Men 100m T52, T53, T54.

 

Mangliwan contributed the largest medal in the 15-medal haul of the Philippines in the competition.

 

Other Filipino medalists in the competition include Cendy Asusano who took home 3 gold medals; Rosalie Torrefiel, silver; Cyril Ongcoy, silver; Arvie Areglado, silver; Marites Burce, one silver and one bronze; Jolan Camacho, silver; King James Reyes, bronze; and Maekel Lita who collected bronze.

 

The Philippine Sports Commission commended the nine athletes for their outstanding performance in this year’s World Para Athletics Grand Prix edition.

 

“Pagpupugay para sa ating mga para athletes na patuloy na sumusungkit ng medalya para sa bansa! Patuloy ninyong ipakilala na #BidaAngBayaningManlalaro,” the sports commission wrote.
