Kalinga PLGU allots P7.9M for 2023 CARAA meet

Tabuk City, Kalinga – In support of the delegation from Kalinga province in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet 2023, the provincial government allotted P7.9 million.


Teddy Gullay, the Provincial Administrator and delegates' comptroller, disclosed this as the delegation officials convened Thursday, April 20 at the Capitol building in preparation for the regional athletic meet which will unfold in Baguio City on April 29 to May 1, reported the Provincial Information Office.


To recall, Governor James Edduba tasked concerned officials to double their effort and aim higher for Kalinga to step up from being one of the least performing provinces every CARAA meet.


To ensure quality of sports equipment and uniforms, and to likewise cover transportation, training fees, meals, snacks, gas allowance, medicines, ID cards and insurance of the delegates, including coaches and other personnel of the provincial education department, the provincial government pledged the said amount of financial aid.


The governor further assigned department heads to monitor the preparation and the main events.


Kalinga PLGU, in partnership with Department of Education (DepEd) Kalinga, will be hosting a send-off program on Thursday, April 27.


The delegates will stay at the Bonifacio Elementary School, Bado Dangwa Street, Baguio City for the entire duration of the CARAA meet 2023, a platform for nurturing the overall development of student athletes including their sportsmanship, skills and athleticism.

Sports Venues


According to Local Youth Development Officer Felix Daladag, the archery will be conducted at Melvin Jones Burnham Park; arnis will be at University of Baguio Gymnasium; athletics at the Baguio Athletic Bowl; billiards at 456 Billiard Hall, Session Road; boxing at Baguio Athletic Bowl, below the bleachers; chess at the 3rd Floor Conference Room; and Futsal at PFVR Gymnasium, Baguio City.


Meanwhile, gymnastics will be at Baguio City National High School Auditorium; swimming at the Swimming Pool of Baguio Athletic Bowl; taekwondo at University of Cordilleras Theater; lawn tennis at Benguet Sports Complex; wrestling at Doña Aurora Elementary School Covered Court; and wushu at Woodsgate, Camp 7, Baguio City.
