Updated: Jun 5

Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the El Niño season comes to an end, another weather phenomenon – the La Niña - is set to hit the country between June and August this year, with predictions of heavy rains which could cause flooding in low-lying areas.

The weather bureau, PAGASA, urged officials in the country to make preparations for the wet season to control the damage it could bring.

The Kalinga provincial government unit, in response, held a special Management Committee (ManCom) meeting on Friday, May 31, where proposed plans relative to the said issue were discussed.

Governor James Edduba, who is heading the team, mandated the concerned offices to identify and implement programs necessary to lessen the possible impacts of La Niña in the province.

Among the plans recommended, according to the provincial information office, were agricultural support, flood control efforts, public health readiness, and community awareness campaigns.

As the office in charge, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) was mandated to coordinate plans and ensure that needed resources are distributed accordingly.

The governor, in a statement, underscored the significance of proactive measures thus the need to assess vulnerabilities and implement plans necessary to safeguard the iKalinga people.

“We must ensure that our communities are well-prepared and resilient against the challenges posed by La Niña,” he concluded.
