Kalinga PLGU honors 3 centenarians from Tabuk and Tanudan with cash aid

Updated: Jun 30

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Three centenarians in the province were honored for their invaluable contributions to their communities through a cash assistance from the provincial government of Kalinga.

The centenarians include Manuela Campilis of Tanudan, 103; Carmen Cue of Bulanao, San Juan, Tabuk City; and Alipio Bisoy of Bulanao Norte, Tabuk City.

Said elderlies received P55,000 each on Monday, June 24. The office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, led by Ms. Rosemarie Oyawon, facilitated the handing over of assistance.

The cash assistance for centenarians is a regular program of the PLGU since 2022, giving P50, 000 to eligible centenarians in the province.   An additional P5,000 each for centenarian, meantime, came from Provincial Governor James Edduba.

The financial assistance serves as the government’s recognition for elderlies who have contributed impactful development in their communities when they were younger.

The program also ensures that they receive appropriate care, aiding them in getting their immediate needs such as food and medical care.

To recall, the awarding of cash assistance to centenarians was made possible through an ordinance authored by then-Board member Frederick Pangsiw in 2021.

The ordinance was pushed through following a letter by the the Senior Citizen Federation requesting P30,000 incentive for centenarians in Kalinga.

Endorsing the letter to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan was then Provincial Governor Ferdinand Tubban.

As the letter reached the province’s legislative department, Pangsiw recommended raising the amount to P50,000, explaining that the value of money decreases over time.
