Tabuk City, Kalinga – The schedule of activities for this year’s Bodong Festival is now out, with its kick-off on February 5, 2024.
First off, to commence the grand kick-off, the "Ayag” or the ringing of the church bells will be made, to be followed by an ecumenical service.
As the official declaration of the start of the festivity is proclaimed, it will continue with the sashing ceremony of the 21 candidates vying for the Mr. and Miss Kalinga titles.
In the afternoon, the opening of the Kalinga Treasures Fair will be conducted. Here, various local products, including wearables, fashion accessories, coffee, cacao, furniture, handicrafts, processed fruits, and nuts, among others, shall be made available for locals and tourists.
From February 7 to 10, the Lumin-awa Trek Adventure will happen anew and is set to take place at Mt. Binaratan in Tanudan. The route shall be Taloctoc-Mangali-Lubo-Gaang-Dacalan to Mt. Binaratan.
The assembly shall be at the Provincial Capitol Canopy at 5 a.m. on February 7.
While trekkers are doing their adventures at Mt. Binaratan, the Kalinga Bodong Youth Summit will be held on February 8, 2024, at the Kalinga State University-Bulanao Campus.
At 8:30 a.m. on said day, the turnover ceremony of the Banneng-Darulog Farm to Market Road in Tanudan shall also transpire.
As set, the preliminary competition for the Mr. and Ms. Kalinga pageant shall occur on February 9 at the Rang-ay Eco-Adventure and Resort in Babalag West, Rizal, Kalinga.
February 10 shall be a day for bikers with the Bodong Bikefest, while the Bodong Congress and Kalinga Lumin-awa Off-road will happen concurrently but to be held until Sunday, February 11.
On February 12, various activities will occur. These include the cultural parade followed by a formal program and the opening of the Agro-fair, Pasil Slow Food, and Earth Market in the morning.
At 1 p.m., the Bodong Portrayal of Balbalan and Tinglayan will come about, followed by the ‘Digdiga di Tupayya’. At 5:30 on the same day, there will be the Lumin-awa Kalinga Concert.
On February 13, most of the anticipated events will take center stage at the festivity, which includes the Bodong Festival Street Dance Competition and the Secondary Schools Drum and Lyre Competition.
At 6 p.m., the night of wit, beauty and masculinity shall transpire - the crowning of the province’s new ambassador and ambassadress.
Alongside the events will be the Bodong Job and Skill’s Fair, a two-day event that shall last until February 14.
On Kalinga’s anniversary day, February 14, the grand civic parade and a formal program will transpire in the morning, while in the afternoon there will be the Elementary Schools Drum and Lyre Competition and the Kalinga Laga Show.
Farmers’ cooperatives, ethnolinguistic groups, and other civil society organizations shall also have their day on February 15.
On said date will be the awarding of the winners of the 2nd coffee quality competition and coffee tasting. Land titles will also be awarded to beneficiaries of agrarian reform by the Department of Agrarian Reform.
On February 16, a medical and dental outreach as well as the Bingo Bonanza by Rang-ay Eco-Adventure Resort will happen, while on February 17, indigenous games will be enjoyed at the Kalinga Sports Center.
To conclude the fun-filled Bodong Festival, Governor James Edduba's “Lumin-awa Kalinga Blood Donation Drive” will take place in Balbalan on February 20.
