Kalinga police on red alert on CPP-NPA's 55th anniversary

Updated: Dec 29, 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – To guarantee that the December 2018 attack in Kalinga will not be repeated, the Kalinga police and army are on ‘red alert’ as the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army marked their 55th anniversary.

The CPP-NPA commemorated their founding anniversary on December 26, 2023.

Kalinga Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip relayed that the police in the province along with the Armed Forces of the Philippines are on ‘red alert’ for any possible atrocities as the CPP-NPA celebrated their foundation day.

Manganip added that while the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG)-Baggas is now weakened and the KLG – Ampis was already dismantled, they still have to monitor the rebels’ movements especially since the province is their rendezvous.

“Although nga weakened iti KLG Baggas, and na-dismantle metten iti KLG Ampis, ngem ditoy area tayo gamin iti kasla nga rendezvous da nga nagu-ummungan da,” he said.

Manganip further said they do not want the December 2018 attack in Uma, Lubuagan to happen again. Back then, the detachment commander of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed while 3 CAFGU members were wounded after their patrol base was attacked by at least 30 NPA members.

2-day ceasefire

The CPP-NPA announced that it suspended tactical offensives against government forces from December 25 – December 26. This was said to be in solidarity with the Holiday season and their 55th founding anniversary.

The Philippine National Police, meantime, earlier said they would not recommend a ceasefire with the CPP-NPA this Christmas.
