Tabuk City, Kalinga – Jean Claude Saclag, who represented the country in the men's low kick -63.5kg division of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, overwhelmed Cambodia’s bet San Rakim and snatched his third straight title on Monday at Morodok Techo National Stadium’s Elephant Hall 1.

The pride of Kalinga from Lubuagan who trains at Baguio-based stable Team Lakay, also won gold in the 2019 and 2021 SEA Games.

His recent victory, he said, is the result of his rigorous training. He left his family for a couple of months to train in Manila, he disclosed in one of his media interviews.

Upon facing his opponent, he felt he was able to win the match.

The 28-year-old attacked the Cambodian when he found the opportunity, while the crowd cheered for his rival. He won all three rounds, capping the Philippines’ five-gold haul on that day.

Saclag was studying education at the University of the Cordilleras but stopped to focus on his training. It is his desire to be a coach someday to build children who can be world champions one day.

Other Cordilleran SEA Games medalists in kickboxing

Renalyn Dacquel of Manabo, Abra settled as silver medalist in the Women's Full Contact -48kg Kickboxing, while Jomar Balangui and Kurt Lubrica secured bronze in Men’s 57kg Lowkick and Men’s 51kg Lowkick event, respectively.
