Kalinga Provincial VHF Radio ComNet soon to rise before 2021 ends

Updated: Jun 8, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga - A project entitled “Design and Establishment of a Very High Frequency (VHF) Provincial Radio Communications Network for Early Warning and Monitoring of Hazards and Incidents in the Province” is set to be installed in Kalinga before December 2021.

Provincial Governor Ferdinand B. Tubban said that it is vital to strengthen Kalinga’s early warning system as a whole, to prevent the possible loss of life and reduce the negative impact of disasters in the province’s economy.

Governor Tubban then requested from the provincial council to enter in a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) for the establishment of the project in Kalinga.

Through Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 2021-070, the MOA was authorized that led to its signing last May 26, 2021.

In said MOA, DOST-CAR with PLGU-Kalinga pledged to extend their full cooperation for the effective and efficient implementation of the project.

DOST-CAR shall monitor, evaluate, keep records and document project activities and identify alternative courses of action or innovations to address problems met, if any, during the implementation of the project.

Tubban guaranteed that PLGU-Kalinga through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management will do their best to accomplish and execute their part.

According to Kalinga Provincial Director Jasmin Donaal, the repeater system with power supply was proposed to be installed at Balbalan based on initial evaluation.

However, Donaal stressed that DOST-CAR will first conduct a propagation test and assessment tentatively on June 28 to July 2 this year. This is for possible site identification, connectivity test, and inventory check.
