Tabuk City, Kalinga - The provincial government of Kalinga headed by Governor James Edduba, in partnership with concerned agencies, actively conducted blood donation drives in the past year, and thus the province was able to collect much-needed blood, earning them the second top spot.

The province got 5,015 blood units in 2024, positioning it as the second-highest contributor to blood collection in the Cordillera region.

This achievement of the province, according to the Kalinga Information Office, was highlighted during the recently conducted 2025 1st Semester Regional Blood Services Network Consultative Meeting, which was attended by Provincial Blood Coordinator Ferdinand A. Nonog.

The Kalinga PIO said the collection of blood in the province is active because of the continued collaboration between the PLGU, various partner agencies like RHUs and the Philippine Red Cross, and the generous blood donors.

Governor James Edduba is among those active blood donors in the province. Donating blood has always been his way of celebrating his birthday, a practice motivated by a personal event when a family member almost died because of insufficient blood supply.

Alongside these yearly events, the governor played a key role in creating and endorsing blood collecting units (BCUs) across the province.

Kalinga currently operates three active BCUs: the Tabuk City Health Services, Pasil RHU, and the Philippine Red Cross-Kalinga Chapter. These medical facilities are vital in maintaining a reliable blood supply for medical emergencies and patient care.

Apart from being the second-highest contributor to blood collection in CAR, Kalinga has been recognized as the only province in the region to have a Rural Health Unit (RHU) functioning as a Blood Collecting Unit (BCU), which is the Pasil RHU.
