Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Product Accounts report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shows that nearly all provinces in the country experienced growth in 2022 compared to their status in 2021.

The PPA, a tool used to gauge economic performance, covered 16 regions outside the National Capital Region, encompassing 82 provinces and 17 highly urbanized cities (HUCs) from November to December 2023. This approach enables policymakers to monitor economic development and progress effectively.

In terms of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) annual growth rate, calculated at constant 2018 prices, Kalinga secured its position among the top 10 provinces with its growth trajectory.

Surging from 5.4 percent in 2021, Kalinga's year-on-year growth soared to 9.3 percent in 2022, marking a substantial leap in economic activity.

The province recorded a GDP of P27.12 billion in 2022, up from P24.82 billion in 2021, reflecting the monetary value of final goods and services produced within its economy.

Among the major industries of the economy, the province’s accommodation and food services activities contributed the highest rate to GDP at 42.4 percent, followed by other services at 29.6 percent, transportation and storage at 27 percent, and construction at 24.4 percent.

The agriculture, forestry, and fishing industry were the lowest contributor at -1.8 percent.

Aklan had the fastest growth rate at 22.5 percent. Completing the Top 10 list, alongside Kalinga, are Nueva Vizcaya (13.1 percent growth), Davao Oriental (12.3 percent), Sorsogon (12.2 percent), Batanes (11.5 percent), Zambales (11.3 percent), Romblon (9.8 percent), Bulacan (9.8 percent), and Tarlac (9.7 percent).
